Christian Education and Leadership Program
Investing in the Christian Future of a Young Nation
In 2013 the Limestone College Christian Education and Leadership Program developed a mission partnership with Kidz Konnect 4 Jesus in the Central American country of Belize. Belize is quite literally a very young, developing country—nearly 50% of the population is under the age of 18. Consequently, poverty is rampant. KK4Jesus is working to educate, equip, and empower poor people in Belize, especially the children, to help them survive, improve, and overcome these conditions.
Over six years 10 CELP mission teams have traveled there and worked with KK4Jesus to share the reality of the Love of Jesus. We have delivered 800,000 hunger relief meals through Rise Against Hunger and over a thousand children’s Bibles. We have worked to improve living conditions for multiple families, expanded the sheltered space for two school lunchrooms, plowed backyard gardens, and helped to establish a co-op that is offering skills training and creating sustainable jobs.
Recent CELP teams have developed an ongoing relationship with 450 students and faculty at a school in the rural village of Silk Grass, providing basic and much needed school supplies, as well as improvement projects throughout the village that witness to the love of God “on earth as it is in heaven.”
Raising Up New Generations of Christian Leaders
The mission of the Christian Education and Leadership Program at Limestone College is to raise up new generations of committed and equipped church leaders by strengthening their relationship with Jesus Christ utilizing classic spiritual disciplines of devotion, prayer, study, and service. Students involved in this accountable discipleship program commit themselves to a consistent regimen of these spiritual disciplines with a priority comparable to that given to their academic or athletic commitments.
Since its establishment in 2000 the Christian Education and Leadership Program (CELP) at Limestone College has awarded over $1.35 million dollars in scholarships and other aid to 465 students committed to development and growth as Christian leaders. In addition, the program has enabled these students to deliver over $1,000,000 of relief to impoverished children and families throughout the world--in Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Belize, as well as giving thousands of hours each year in mission service to the Gaffney community. We are making a difference for Christ and His Kingdom both at Limestone and throughout the world.
Who are you?
Who is God calling you to be?
What is God’s purpose for your life?
For a young person making the passage into adulthood, college life can be compared to the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promise Land. According to the Bible these newly liberated persons first spent some years wandering in the wilderness wondering who they were, who God was calling them to be, and what God was calling them to do with their lives. Theirs was a wilderness journey full of mountains to climb, valleys to cross, and rivers to ford. Even upon their arrival in the Land of Promise the Israelites discovered that their journey was not over. A full and meaningful life occurs daily within a constantly changing landscape that yields fresh challenges and new opportunities. It is a life-long endeavor full of wonder--and some awesome views.
So, where do you find your strength?
Christians believe that the strength necessary to live a full and meaningful life is to be found through practicing the beliefs and following the example of Jesus Christ, (who at the beginning of his own ministry also spent time in the wilderness wrestling with the meaning and purpose of life). Christian faith is like a fitness program for the spirit that can help one develop the strengths and abilities to face the challenges of a meaningful life. As with a physical fitness program, the benefits of a spiritual fitness program are realized through discipline and commitment. While at Limestone you will have opportunities to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually; to develop the strength and abilities necessary to reach your potential as a human being created by God. The Christian Education and Leadership Program is designed to enable you to explore and deepen your faith in Christ, to follow his example of service to those in need, to relate the practice of Christian faith to your career goals, and to lead others to a realization of the “good news” to be found through faith in Christ. As part of the Christian Education and Leadership Program you can prepare to live strong on your journey, enjoying the abundant life which Christ promises.
May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from God’s glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience.
Let us run with perseverance the race that is before us.
