About Avenue Q
"It's easy to discount Avenue Q as a simple satire of children's programming (because of the use of puppets) and also easy to miss that it's tackling some real-life issues. Essentially, the authors set a task for themselves: what if adult life were tackled in the same way—simply, and with humor and heart. So racism, sexuality, poverty, commitment, dignity, and purpose are examined through a simpler and sometimes furrier eye."
In 2004, Avenue Q was named Best Musical at the Tony Awards in a huge upset over top-nominated Wicked. It was also named Best Score, and Best Book.
