|"Avenue Q" Presented for the First Time in the Upstate by Limestone Theatre|
Avenue Q, the Triple Crown Tony Award-winning musical, will be presented for the first time in Upstate South Carolina on the Limestone Center Theatre stage April 18-20 and 25-27.
Curtain times each evening at 8:00 p.m. This hilarious comedy is intended for mature audiences only.
"In essence, Avenue Q addresses adult issues in very much the same way Sesame Street presents children's issues. In keeping with that theme, we can definitely say that Avenue Q is brought to us by the letter 'M' for Mature Audiences Only," said Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, Professor of English and Theatre at Limestone and Director of Avenue Q.
"It's easy to discount Avenue Q as a simple satire of children's programming (because of the use of puppets) and also easy to miss that it's tackling some real-life issues. Essentially, the authors set a task for themselves: what if adult life were tackled in the same way—simply, and with humor and heart. So racism, sexuality, poverty, commitment, dignity, and purpose are examined through a simpler and sometimes furrier eye."

Avenue Q original cast member and Tony Award nominated puppeteer John Tartaglia visited the Limestone campus in March 2012 and led a day-long workshop with Limestone theatre students, most of whom will "pulling the strings" for characters in the College's production.
"There's something about puppets that cuts through our defenses and lets us be more receptive to seeing the world in a different light," said Dr. Baxter-Ferguson.
