Limestone College recognized John and Ruby Travers as its Philanthropists of the Year for 2012. The acknowledgment was made during a celebratory luncheon at The Piedmont Club in Spartanburg.

 Dynamic Duo
Longtime residents of Gaffney, the Traverses have provided exemplary leadership in their support of Limestone. John served two terms on the Limestone Board of Trustees that included service as Vice Chairman of the Board, member of the Executive Committee, and Chairman of standing committees. He was also instrumental in securing a million dollar grant from the Timken Foundation that enabled Limestone to renovate four major historic buildings on the campus in the early 1990s.

In the form of leadership and support at the civic, church, and governmental levels, the couple has also made numerous contributions to the industrial growth and development of Cherokee County with a strong commitment to improving the quality of life in the community.

"Over 30 years ago, John and Ruby Travers adopted Cherokee County when they moved here from Ohio. This dynamic duo has influenced the lives of generations of Limestone students as well as those in the local community. Honoring John and Ruby is definitely a highlight of the year for Limestone College," said Dr. Walt Griffin, President.
