Limestone College invites applications for a 12 month staff position as the Assistant Director of Bands/Associate Director of Athletic Bands/Director of Recruiting for Department of Music.  The appointment will begin July 2015 and may be a renewable position.

Description: Candidates must exhibit excellent communication, organizational, and management skills, have a commitment to artistry, demonstrate success working in a team situation, and able to contribute to the Department of Music’s music education program. In addition, the candidate should have experience developing and maintaining strong relationships with local, regional and national music communities (including teachers, school systems, and professional organizations). The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Bands and demonstrate an ardent commitment to working in a team-centered environment. Further he/she will join a dedicated Department of Music faculty, administering the total student Limestone College degree programs offering comprehensive, professional and educational ensemble experiences to its students.

Responsibilities: Recruiting for Limestone College, the Department of Music, the Athletic Bands, especially The Marching Saints, is priority. Work closely with all Department of Music faculty and the Admissions Office in recruiting efforts.  Scheduled visits, contacts, and collection of data will be essential, along with attendance at regional music meetings, Open House days, and any other applicable events for recruiting.  Be an active member of musical organizations in the community, around the state, and in the southeast region of the United States.

Teaching responsibilities primarily are within, but not limited to, the Athletic Band program. Ability to rehearse and direct The Marching Saints, as well as the Limestone Pep Band, will be expected. This includes, but is not limited to, Pre-Camp, Band Camp, rehearsals, schedule preparations, inventory, logistics, travel and all course or activity requirements. Drill design, music selection, auditions, grades, attendance, and all other organizational needs will be in conjunction with the Director of Bands.

Administrative duties will include management of our Athletic Band Program (The Marching Saints, Pep Band, Indoor Guard, and Indoor Percussion), working with our faculty, staff, and work-study students in coordination with the Director of Bands and the Department of Music, and liaison to our large Athletic Department (NCAA – Division II). Additional responsibilities may be assigned given the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate.

Dependent on experience and qualifications of candidate, further teaching opportunities may include various course offerings - such as Applied Music, Ensembles, Theory, Music Appreciation, Conducting, Marching Band Techniques, etc. - as necessary to the Department of Music. Additional responsibilities may be assigned given the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s (Doctorate or ABD preferred), and a degree in music education from an accredited institution. Evidence of successful teaching at the secondary and/or college level. Evidence of successful recruitment and retention of students in instrumental programs.
